Duties

What to expect

  • Plans, develops, administers and maintains a comprehensive aquatics program.
  • Plans, coordinates, and schedules installation activities, special events, and joint community undertakings.
  • Prepares budgets.
  • Evaluates program overall effectiveness.
  • Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies.
  • Prepares internal office financial plans and related records and reports, and exercises authority on approved budget.
  • Protects patrons from hazardous conditions by ensuring rules and regulations are enforced.
  • Protects lives through aggressive prevention, preparedness, education, emergency medical, and rescue programs.
  • Performs water rescues and land rescues equal to the standard of training when an emergency is taking place (e.g. drowning, medical or trauma in the water). Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED).
  • Responsible for ensuring all personnel are properly trained and maintain appropriate professional certifications.
  • Supervises grades NF-01 through NF-03 (and equivalent) staff to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, training and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; completing performance reviews.
  • Operates Rec Trac, monitors cashiers. Ensures cashiers are properly trained in the use of Rec Trac and proper cash handling procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area.  May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue. Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions exist.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field appropriate to the work of the position.
  • OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above.
  • OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above.
  • AND a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must have knowledge of pool water chemistry and the ability to use and perform maintenance of pool equipment and operation systems.
  • Understanding of and the ability to enforce rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers. 
  • Must be able to pass an initial and recurring physical ability test.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.
  • Training and Certifications Required:
    • Based on program operations the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire a nationally recognized certification of a Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) and Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) or equivalent. 
    • Current or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire an Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
    • Current nationally recognized certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent.
    • Current nationally recognized certification as a Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or equivalent. 
    • Current nationally recognized certification: Lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, Standard First Aid or equivalent.
