Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Environmental Engineer/Natural Resources Specialist/Physical Scientist in the Environmental division of NAVFAC ROICC SIGONELLA.

Duties

  • You will review environmental documentation prepared by the environmental office.
  • You will act as the Environmental management System (EMS) Representative to the ICO and is responsible for implementing the installations EMS.
  • You will manage preparation of environmental documentation for highly visible and politically sensitive programs.
  • You will provide technical input to help resolve and coordinate the Service/command position on issues dealing with environmental protection.
  • You will review environmental documentation necessary for waste disposal that is prepared by the environmental staff and supported commands.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • This incumbent is required to attain DAWIA Level I certification within 24 months of appointment.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing environmental protection principles, practices, and procedures to manage environmental programs (i.e. air pollution control, water quality control, resource management, solid/hazardous waste management) and; 2) Interpreting environmental laws, regulations, and compliance to develop and implement technical policy directives and programs and; 3) Reviewing environmental engineering/science plans and specifications to resolve complex problems related to environmental health risk and; 4) Analyzing data to provide technical advisory services to environmental health risk assessments and health risk mitigation practices. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
