Summary

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES BRANCH of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI.

Duties

  • You will implement and supervise the functions of the fire prevention program.
  • You will represent the fire prevention inspectors in all areas/subjects that are assigned to your section.
  • You will supervise and implement an effective fire prevention program through inspections, training, and enforcement of fire regulations.
  • You will assign Fire Prevention Inspectors to ensure that maximum efficiency and utilization of inspector resources are met.
  • You will insure representation is provided at all pre-construction conferences with project officers, engineers, construction inspectors, and contractors to instruct and advise of all regulations pertaining to fire and life safety.
  • You will pan and implement a hazard abatement program.
  • You will plan and administer training, orientation, and education programs for fire safety.
  • You will investigate fires to determine cause, origin, and possibility of arson.
  • You will maintain contacts with host nation municipal fire departments to coordinate joint fire prevention efforts within the region.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and successfully complete an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer III, and Hazardous Material Incident Commander.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: implementing a fire prevention program through inspections, training, and enforcement of fire regulations to installation, tenant commands, and surrounding communities, and overseeing inspectors in work assignments, performance evaluation and recommending for awards & training development.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

You will be required to pass an annual physical and meet the medical and physical fitness entrance requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management Handbook X-118, Series 0081.

You will be required to participate in a physical fitness program.

You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

I am able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds in weight.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
