Duties

Under the direction of the Single Marine Program (SMP) Coordinator, assists with overall responsibility for the operation, integration, coordination, and oversight of the installation¿s comprehensive SMP program targeting

single and unaccompanied service members 

assigned to the installation.  Takes a lead role in the coordination, logistical management, and execution of events consisting of volunteer and community service opportunities, recreational activities, social events, and other special events, parties, picnics, etc.  Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and memoranda to support program goals for SMP programs. Facilitates monthly SMP meeting including focus groups and strategic planning sessions. 

In the absence of the SMP Coordinator, assists in providing a full range of supervisory duties to include performance management, employee evaluation and recognition, training, scheduling and assigning work to personnel, and recommends personnel actions as necessary.

Plans, organizes, coordinates, and chaperones tours for single and unaccompanied service members to a variety of natural, historical sites, parks, and local attractions, etc. Incumbent will solicit feedback from single and unaccompanied service members and select locations for tours which allow the opportunity to acquire maximum benefit from the visits and ensures that tact and diplomacy is exercised.  Develops new tours by conducting research, determining breakeven analysis and coordinating with local tour businesses to make reservations as needed for restaurants and/or tour sites. Establishes itineraries and conducts briefings as requested. Ensures safety of the tour sites, provides safety briefings to customers and renders first aid as needed to customers or fellow employees. Completes after-action reports after tours are conducted and submits invoices to supervisor for payment. 

Works with the SMP Coordinator to utilize a planning process to ensure all administration, logistical, marketing, fiscal, and critical event planning components are completed for each event in a timely manner. Develops Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms) for all events to ensure event planning and coordination requirements are accomplished in a timely manner. 

Submits supporting documentation and event packages to the Air Station Commanding Officer via Air Station Department Heads (S7, Air Ops, S6, PMO, ATFP, Medical, Safety, etc.), and maintains proper records. Evaluates effectiveness of SMP programs/events and makes recommended changes for improvement based on participation, patron satisfaction, staffing, fees and industry trends.  Serves as program property Responsible Officer (RO) and Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for contractors utilized to support events. Administers and manages a Government Credit Purchase Card (GCPC) along with all administrative requirements necessary to ensure regulatory compliance. 

Supervises employees and numerous volunteers to include assigning and distributing work, creating and presenting pre- event briefs, coaching, instructing and monitoring duties. Assists in ensuring staff and volunteers follow risk management procedures (i.e., abuse prevention, identification, and reporting procedures; accident prevention, etc.). Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Ensures compliance with fire, safety and other environmental issues. Ensures compliance with security directives and safety standards in the work area. Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience that demonstrates work experience directly related to the management of related leisure/recreational activities with an emphasis and knowledge of the philosophy, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning, administering and conducting leisure and recreational events.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and/or holidays. 
  • Must have experience providing customer service to a diverse customer base and be able to tactfully communicate with all levels of the military community. 
  • Must have the ability to use equipment relative to the activity.
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no direct supervision. 
  • Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45lbs independently (objects over 45lbs with assistance), bend, stoop, and stand/walk for a prolonged period.
  • Must possess a valid driver¿s license. Must obtain (within 3 months of employment) and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and government vehicle operator¿s permit.
  • This position requires proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software pertinent to the program.
  • Travel will be required to oversee SMP trips. 

Must be able to obtain and maintain a low-risk, non-sensitive Tier-1 background investigation with favorable eligibility as required.
