Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety Office of US NAVAL AIR FACILITY MISAWA.

Duties

  • You will perform duties in support of regionally centralized Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Explosive Safety (ES) Programs.
  • You will support the OSH and ES programs of the command involved in aviation support functions, ground operations, maintenance work processes, and explosive transportation, maintenance and storage facilities.
  • You will safeguard personnel from injury and health hazards as a result of employment or presence aboard the installation.
  • You will plan, organize, and coordinate a comprehensive safety and occupational health program for all areas of an installation. including high-risk operations and functions that are common to industrial, commercial, or construction situations.
  • You will serve as technical expert on principles and techniques of safety and occupational health management in the prevention and control of accidents.
  • You will investigate and analyze material damage, personal injury accidents, and cases of occupational disease and prepare formal written reports of finding.
  • You will serve as the technical authority on planning, managing, and administering the inspection program for the command.
  • You will perform inspections and surveys of all aspects of the facilities, equipment and operations for which the command has a responsibility.
  • You will supervise supervisory and non-supervisory Government Service and Military Personnel.
  • You will make work assignments, oversee work, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and leave for supervised personal.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing technical expertise on principles and techniques of safety and occupational health management in the prevention and control of accidents in such areas as work methods, protection devices and motivational techniques.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
