Duties

  • Serves as a Section Chief directing and supervising employees highly skilled in customer support.
  • Manages the functions and staff required to support the planning, and delivery of customer support services, including troubleshooting, planning, customer assistance, and or training, in response customer requirements.
  • Directs accomplishment of highly critical mission and functions of the organization supported.
  • Keeps abreast of "state-of-the-art" advanced technology.
  • Studies appropriate journals, participates in computer users technical seminars, maintains contacts with vendor personnel, and takes other actions as appropriate to maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field.
  • Plans and supervises the work of a work unit for which the programs and objectives are clearly defined, and the organizational structure is fully established.
  • At this level of supervision, more than one kind of work may be present, requiring an additional body of knowledge, and moderate variations in workload may be imposed on the supervisor due to cyclic fluctuations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Qualifying Experience:

Attention to Detail- experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data and have been asked by others to review their work or data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.

Customer Service - experience maintaining relationships with customers, assessing current information technology needs of customers, and developing or identifying information technology products and services that are tailored to meet customer needs.

Oral Communication -briefing mid-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of technical information to a non-technical audience.

Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address complex information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide a number of potential solutions.

AND

To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: experience providing technical support to customers on hardware and software issues in accordance with organizational processes; experience providing technical guidance, advice, and support in troubleshooting issues and resolving complex problems internal and external customers, developing and managing customer performance requirements and customer support policies and procedures.

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level.


Additional information

  • Current Federal employees within CONUS who are selected through a formal competitive recruitment process for a lower graded position overseas may be afforded pay retention if their pay would otherwise be reduced. Pay retention may be granted to employees already in the overseas area if the recruitment efforts had been extended outside the overseas command involved and the individual selected will have to PCS. Locality rates of pay will not be used for pay setting when transferring to the overseas area.
  • Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination
  • Eligibility for foreign-area allowances such as Foreign Post Allowance and Living Quarter Allowance will be determined at the time of hire.
  • Military Spouse Preference (MSP)/Family Member Preference (FMP) - Candidates claiming MSP/(FMP) must include a copy of sponsor's permanent change of station orders authorizing movement of spouse to the overseas command or other appropriated documentation that support the preference. Additional documentation may be required prior to granting the preference. Family members of locally hired DoD civilian employees are not eligible for Family Member Preference.
  • The DoD policy on overseas employment for civilian employees limits overseas tours to 5 years. Extensions beyond 5 years are designed to provide management flexibility to meet defined mission requirements that otherwise cannot be made. Case-by-case extensions beyond the 5-year limit may be granted in extremely rare situations.
  • U.S. citizens in Germany under ordinary resident status are not eligible to apply for appointment under Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).
  • A one year probationary or trial period may be required.
  • This position is subject to completion of 1 year probationary period for assignment to a supervisory position.
  • Current DoD employees who accept this position will have statutory return rights to the same grade they held prior to accepting this position.
