Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the
GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
managing, planning, and evaluating multiple safety and occupational health programs for a wide variety of industrial activities (e.g., heavy construction, military training operations, equipment and vehicle maintenance, aviation facilities, explosives safety, traffic safety, vehicle licensing, heavy equipment operations, facility inspections, public playground and home day care provider inspections, recreational off-duty safety, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and lasers, warehousing and material handling, fire prevention, spray painting and sand blasting, electrical hazards, asbestos and lead); providing advice on safety and occupational health policies and procedures; AND developing safety and occupational health program budgets.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Initial training is required for all safety and occupational health professionals; the specific course requirements are outlined below. The first three training courses must be completed within one year, or attend the next available course:
a. Introduction to Navy Occupational Safety and Health (Ashore), A-493-0550 or Ground Safetyfor Marines.
b. General Industry Safety Standards, A-493-0061 or OSHA 511.
c. Mishap Investigation, A-493-0078 or Marine Corps Ground Mishap Investigations Course (GMIC).
The listed training courses, which are not an all-inclusive list to develop all safety competencies, should be prioritized by the command's organizational training requirements and incorporated into their gap analysis and Individual Development Plan (IDP):
