Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1290000 and is part of the IL FMS 6, National Guard.

Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-5801-10, you will supervise workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing work of the function.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
  • Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by the supervisor.
  • Determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
  • Provide management with workload data, estimates, and recommendations to facilitate more effective management decisions for staffing and funding requirements to support customer units.
  • Ensure work in progress and completed work meets established standards by implementation of a Quality Control and Assurance program within the organization.
  • Ensure equipment repairs do not exceed maintenance expenditure limits in accordance as established by regulation and or policies.
  • Effectively, efficiently, and economically make adjustments as necessary to maximize production, accomplish specified tasks, and manage resources.
  • Note work related problems and independently implement corrective actions, which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors.
  • Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • Determine training needs of subordinates and arrange for accomplishment.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), the only area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.

Military Grades: Enlisted/Warrant Officer - Minimum E8 - Maximum CW4

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment; ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment; extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems; extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS-10 Level MUST possess, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.

SPECIALIZED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: MUST possess possess specialized supervisory experience which includes experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
