Summary

About the Position: Serves the United States (US) Army's contribution of ready, lethal, and combat-credible forces to the Combatant Commander.

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 2 yrs by a current Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years.

Duties

  • Conducts comprehensive program management or participates in the functional planning and execution of assigned Army and mission dictated program elements.
  • Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with Army senior leaders, command staff principals, and other special and general staff to assure SOH’s integration into all operational and occupational task.
  • Applies hazard identification, abatement, and control principles to all tasks continually, and assists in the accurate assessment and assignment of risk to identified hazards.
  • Participates in the Army Headquarters’ Command Staff Inspection (CSI) Programs or similar compliance / audit programs and/or performs actions related to assuring the compliant state of subordinate organizations regarding SOH management.
  • Completes written assessments, analysis, reviews, processes, and plans for integrating risk management into military operations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 (NCS/SECRET) background investigation.
  • Position requires the U.S. Army Safety Professional Certification of the CP-12/PCSOH Program or must complete within 12 months of appointment.
  • This position is covered by the Drug-Free Workplace Program as a testing designated position.
  • Must be able to work extended and/or other than normal duty hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime to the extent determined by the supervisor.
  • Must be able perform a Temporary Change of Station (TCS) for not less than 6 months, but no more than 30 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Forces Certificate of License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government driver’s license to operate non-tactical vehicle/transportation motor pool (NTV/TMP) vehicles such as a sedan or small passenger van.
  • Must be able to work under austere living conditions, as well as, share accommodation under field conditions (containers, tents and/or barracks).
  • Must be able to perform business related travel up to 60% of the time.
  • Must be able to receive inoculations IAW DoD requirements for travel to specific countries.
  • Must be able to travel using military transportation or non-commercial means of travel.
  • IAW DoD Policy, must be able to obtain and maintain a no-fee Special Issuance Passport (SIP) and associated visa while assigned to a Federal civilian position in an area requiring a passport and associated visa.
  • Incumbent will be required to deploy (world-wide) with assigned/attached units for periods up to 365 days. A physical examination for deployment is required.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass a military deployment physical examination as part of the pre- employment.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and then continue to maintain Standard Army Safety Program certification. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required.
  • When deployed and/or in preparation for deployment, incumbent must meet weapons qualifications requirements for a 9MM pistol and/or M16/M4 rifle.
  • Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander
  • Designated Emergency Essential Position: This position is considered essential to support Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: develop safety policies and plans to prevent mishaps that may result in occupational injury and/or illness; develop safety plans encompassing the pre-deployment, deployment, employment and re-deployment of personnel and equipment; and, determine status of compliance with combat, combat support, and combat service support safety requirements.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
