In order to qualify, you must meet the Experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying safety and occupational health laws, policies, regulations and directives to eliminate or control potential hazards; conducting safety and occupational health surveys to identify, analyze and evaluate hazards and risks; implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses; training personnel in safety and occupational health subjects. This experience spans various occupational fields, including industrial hygiene, safety engineering, fire prevention engineering, health physics, and occupational health nursing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Physical Demands: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion related to frequent inspections of workplaces, storage areas, exam rooms, construction sites, crawl spaces, etc., requiring prolonged standing and considerable walking, climbing, bending, crouching or kneeling, stretching, reaching, and similar movements. The work requires some degree of agility and dexterity when performing duties.
Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurrent exposure to hazards, unpleasantness, and discomforts. Personal protective clothing and equipment will be needed in the performance of duties; such as medical protective clothing, hard hats, gloves, earmuffs or plugs, glasses or goggles, gloves, face mask, and respirator.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
