Summary

About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking. Duties

  • Serve as a Brigade Safety and Occupational Health Specialist responsible for management of an organizational safety and occupational health program.
  • Maintain an Engineer Brigade (EN BDE) safety and occupational health program.
  • Determine safety requirements in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) regulations, Army Regulations (AR) 385-10, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Executive Order (EO) 12196, and 29 CFR 1960.
  • Improve the safety and working environment and reduce preventable accidents for all soldiers, military technicians and civilian employees assigned to the EN BDE.
  • Advise the Brigade Commander (CDR) on Occupational Safety and Health program management.
  • Analyze mishap statistics and investigation reports.
  • Plan training programs and arranges for and directs special training.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert to Safety Councils and committees throughout the EN BDE.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing safety or occupational health program elements for occupations including general and specialized troop training, maneuver activities; recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management for transportation and use of ammunition, explosives, weapons systems, chemicals, fuels or ionizing radiation sources; and reducing unsafe acts and conditions throughout the organization, installation, and supported activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
