Duties

As a Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator), you will perform the following duties:

Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy powered scrubbers and buffers.
Adjusts, cleans and oils cleaning machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them.
Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds.
Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
Cleans and maintains linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces.
Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids.
Operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires moderately heavy physical effort and involves lifting and moving objects over 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must lift and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).

Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. The incumbent is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 Custodial Workers usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation.

Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).

If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply.
