About the Position: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
- Validate entry requests for persons and vehicles through the use of electronic systems.
- Assist Military Police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, taking statements, and preserving incident scenes.
- Process research queries on the National Crime Information Center workstation terminal(s) in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Perform Visitor Control Center duties such as enrolling visitors for vetting, responding to telephone and in-person security inquiries.
- Support the installation's Antiterrorism/ Force Protection capability.
- Prepare written reports of unusual situations.
- Implement the installation closure plan.
- Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s).
- Incumbent must meet and maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with AR 190-56.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- In accordance with AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations and subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must be proficient in use of assigned firearms / weapons, and must be able to qualify initially and semi-annually re-certify thereafter in use of assigned firearms or weapon(s).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to security guard work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must complete an initial Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification, and an annual recertification requirement. Incumbent may act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- The incumbent of this position may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protection mask and over garments.
- This position may require incumbent to be qualified/certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants/baton and incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- The position requires the incumbent to wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56 and for the incumbent to maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- This position requires the incumbent to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability which includes training to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Protecting personnel and property; Maintaining order and/or protecting life; and Preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (continued):
- Incumbent required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outlined in Army Regulation 190-56 after second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TAD) may be required up to 25%.
- The position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
