Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization performing installation access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists;
OR maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must show knowledge of protective systems and techniques . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05)
