In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General Experience: Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information.
Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least
six (6) months of specialized experience and six (6) months of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-03) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.

Education: Successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying. Transcripts must be provided if substituting education for experience and/or if education is required for this position. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable but official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty.
Training: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local, laws, or investigative techniques on a month-to-month basis.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience/training may be used to meet total experience requirements.
