- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) apply. Expected to maintain a high standard of conduct and will be assess for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgement, flexibility and a positive attitude toward duties.
- Position requires pre-employment and random drug testing thereafter. Will be required to sign a DA Form 5019, Conditions of Employment.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second
attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Must be able to perform as a member of the installations overall security response capability and may require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
- Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Qualifications
Competition for the position of Security Guard is restricted to those applicants that are entitled to Veterans preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-04 Experience and/or Education Requirements:
General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes following written procedures, rules, and regulations in contacts with staff members or the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service which includes protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; OR maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). (NOTE: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covers subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience on a month-for-month basis).

Education: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-05 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year specialized experience which includes controlling access to a facility; searching various types of vehicles and verifying identification OR performing traffic control duties and operating radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-4).
GS-06 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with a Federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization performing access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
At the GS 05 level and higher, for this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
