Summary

This position is that of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocate (VA) and serves as the primary initial point of contact for victims of sexual assault. Provides 24/7 support for victims' immediate needs. Assesses all safety concerns, provides victim information on resources that are available; serves as an advocate for the expressed interests of victims with all intervening agencies.

Duties

  • This position is that of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocate (VA) and serves as the primary initial point of contact for victims of sexual assault.
  • Provides 24/7 support for victims' immediate needs.
  • Assesses all safety concerns, provides victim information on resources that are available; serves as an advocate for the expressed interests of victims with all intervening agencies.
  • The SAPR VA is required to complete and maintain all required program training, credentialing, and certification, including the Department of Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP).

Conditions of Employment

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Child Care National Agency Check & Inquiry (CNACI)
    background check is required.
  • Completion of DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification within 6-months of hire
  • Must complete one-year probationary period (unless already completed)
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Incumbent will be required to conduct business in a shipboard
    environment.
  • May be required to provide SARC duties and responsibilities in a deployed environment.

Qualifications

  • To be qualified for this position, candidates must meet the qualifications identified below. Candidates qualifying for the position must provide sufficient information to demonstrate how these requirements are met.

    Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    or

    Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

    or

    Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Appropriate experience is defined as:

    In addition to the basic requirements outlined, candidates must also possess one year of specialized experience as defined below.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of sexual assault and local community resources for sexual assault victims.
  • Knowledge of the military, Department of Defense (DoD), and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program, along with local, state, and federal laws and military regulations pertaining to victims of sexual assault is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, DSAID and FFSMIS.
  • Skill in the use of office software applications and required management data systems to enter data, prepare reports, and develop information.
  • Skill in providing victim advocacy and working with victims of sexual assault.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
  • Ability to use data management and reporting systems to collect and organize data drawn from databases.
  • Ability to compose written reports and material clearly, concisely, and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate statistical framework for program data collection and reports.
  • Ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for victims.
  • Ability to develop trusting helping relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social services, law enforcement, and legal personnel on behalf of victims.
  • Ability to drive a government or personal vehicle in order to travel to training, coordinate tasks/actions
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of management, staff, and military personnel and their families.

Education

A bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice or related social or behavioral science.
OR
A combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to bachelor's degree.

  • Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
