This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for DoD Maintenance Activities.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: Assisting with plans and lay outs of work, helping to determine repair work needed, operating various shop equipment, and helping to cut, bend and form metal parts. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical effort: Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolds and toeboards and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places that require climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
- Working conditions: Works in well-lighted but noisy shop and outside subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. There is continuous exposure to disagreeable odors, smoke, and fumes. Wears protective masks, aprons, and goggles. There are dangers of cuts, falls, burns, and injuries from hand and power tools.
