Major duties include, but are not limited to:
- The incumbent performs statistical reporting, evaluation, consultation, and collaboration with non-Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) community partners as well as other VA health care professionals and administrators. The incumbent comprehends and maintains knowledge of current VA guidelines, policies, federal regulations, and laws governing medical benefits for Veterans.
- The incumbent demonstrates exceptional public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with for variety of audiences. The incumbent fosters strong collaborative relations with the SP Coordinator and program Case Managers in the development and implementation of SP educational programs and initiatives. The incumbent demonstrates strong interpersonal and collaborative skills working with staff and stakeholders at all knowledge and proficiency levels.
- The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the community is informed on services offered by the Veteran's Health Administration. The CEPC will work with the SP program support/admin person and the SP Coordinator to track data and complete and submit reports.
- The incumbent works with the SP coordinator, VISN office and the National Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) to implement SP communication plans, both internal and external to the VA. The incumbent coordinates speaking engagements and/or facility participation for events in the community which will assist in providing Veterans, their families and caregivers, and other stakeholders with information regarding suicide prevention and encourage enrollment in the VA Health Care System.
- The incumbent develops materials and training programs in coordination with the SP Coordinator, OSP and the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) staff and external stakeholders regarding suicide prevention programs in VHA and the facility. The incumbent collaborates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs and learning outcomes, including strategies to evaluate outcomes based on the best available evidence.
- The incumbent facilitates VA S.A.V.E. training or other Gatekeeper suicide prevention training to employees during new employee orientation and as needed ongoing in the hospital setting.
- The CEPC will ensure that ongoing educational opportunities are provided to internal clinical and administrative staff members to support and enhance their knowledge of SP program, policy, and resources. They work with, local VISN, and OSP levels in the development of marketing strategies based on research, reports, products, and organizational data. Utilizes multimedia campaign materials (e.g. printed articles, brochures, videos) to educate and engage target audiences. Consistently grows community network of unique stakeholders through actively engaging a variety of venues and audiences. Seeks out opportunities to attend meetings/conferences in various venues to broaden the network of outreach to the Veteran population to achieve optimum saturation in the facility catchment area.
- Serves as a point of contact for coalition needs from local Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and national suicide prevention campaigns and events, ensuring local implementation and participation. Collaborates in the development and delivery of education and outreach services that encompasses underserved veteran populations and expands SP outreach in communities in the facility's geographical catchment area, and may include regional or state events. Serves as a member of facility SP committee. Collaborates with other SP staff to develop consistency between facility strategies (e.g., local policies and procedures, local protocols, local clinical reminders, and standardized templates), and VHA guidance statements, and prepares or edits educational materials to reflect these strategies and guidance.
- The incumbent is required to initiate and engage in a high amount of travel throughout the catchment area in order to meet the needs of the position and program. They are required to be in the community frequently and to attend meetings face to face, establish relationships and physically be a part of community coalitions and partnerships. The catchment area is a large geographic area that includes numerous counties. The incumbent is responsible for regular travel through the Twin Cites Metro, Southern MN, Northern MN, and Northwestern WI. In some cases, the CEPC will attend trainings, conferences, and meetings outside of the catchment area, to include different states.
- Position requires operation of government vehicle. Must have valid driver's license

HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students.
