Basic Requirements for Speech/ Language Pathologist:
Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher-level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
License: This position requires a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes delivering speech therapy services; formulating treatment plans for speech disorders; and speech therapy counseling patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
