Basic Requirement for Speech/Language Therapist:
Education: The mandatory education program described below must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree: A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech/language pathology with approved clinical practice.
AND
License: In addition
, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
AND
Certification: National certification (Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the (GS-11) grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is described as screening, evaluating, and providing educational services to families and young children; analyzing and interpreting standardized test results, family concerns, and routines in the evaluation of delays in children; collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate children; and providing early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays in the areas of communication, cognitive, motor, adaptive, and social/emotional domains.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
