Duties
Serving as a Staff Assistant (OA) GS-0303-8 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is within the Cheltenham Administration Division (CAD), under the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD), and located in Cheltenham, Maryland.
The primary purpose of this position is serve as the Staff Assistant for the Cheltenham Administration Division, providing customer service to internal and external customers in administrative areas.
Typical duties include:
- Providing administrative training and assistance to staff members by preparing detailed plans to execute all stages/phases of assigned projects and tasks.
- Maintaining for a variety of sensitive administrative/personnel matters essential to the efficient operation on of the organization.
- Tracking the budget allocations for travel, training, equipment, supplies, and credit card purchases.
- Typing a variety of complex correspondences, memoranda, reports, and other statistical materials on behalf of the assigned supervisor, assembling and attaching any background information prior to submittal.

For the GS-8: Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-08 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties: 1) Preparing briefing materials in support of finalizing presentations. 2) Maintaining accurate and complete budget reviews for an assigned program. 3) Composing complex correspondences, memos, reports and other statistical materials on behalf of management. 4) Developing procedures and checklists for administrative operations.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an office environment and at various on-site facilities, with occasional travel to provide assistance or to attend meetings. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts and requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as meeting and training rooms, libraries, or commercial vehicles. The work is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
