Sterile Processing Technician

Join our dedicated team at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a Sterile Processing Technician. You will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and availability of medical supplies and equipment, contributing directly to patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory and maintain stock in primary and secondary storage locations for Sterile Processing Services.
  • Perform decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of reusable medical equipment and basic instrument sets.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, such as steam sterilizers and high-level disinfecting endoscope reprocessors.
  • Prepare and distribute operating room carts based on surgery schedules.
  • Ensure all procedures comply with safety and cross-contamination precautions.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Basic Requirement: Six months of experience or one year of relevant education above high school.

Experience Options Based on Level:

  • Entry Level (GS-03): No additional experience required beyond the basic requirements.
  • Developmental Level (GS-04): Six months experience in a sterile processing role or equivalent educational qualifications.
  • Developmental Level (GS-05): One year of experience equivalent to GS-04, or a Bachelor's degree with related coursework.
  • Full Performance Level (GS-06): One year of experience equivalent to GS-05, with comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization processes.

Preferred Experience

  • Two years of experience in sterile processing.
  • Certification in CRMST or CRCST.
  • Knowledge in endoscope management.

Work Environment

  • Schedules may vary with rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in various environments including decontamination and sterilization areas.
