Sterile Processing Technician
Join our dedicated team at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a Sterile Processing Technician. You will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and availability of medical supplies and equipment, contributing directly to patient care and safety.
Responsibilities
- Inventory and maintain stock in primary and secondary storage locations for Sterile Processing Services.
- Perform decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of reusable medical equipment and basic instrument sets.
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, such as steam sterilizers and high-level disinfecting endoscope reprocessors.
- Prepare and distribute operating room carts based on surgery schedules.
- Ensure all procedures comply with safety and cross-contamination precautions.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Basic Requirement: Six months of experience or one year of relevant education above high school.
Experience Options Based on Level:
- Entry Level (GS-03): No additional experience required beyond the basic requirements.
- Developmental Level (GS-04): Six months experience in a sterile processing role or equivalent educational qualifications.
- Developmental Level (GS-05): One year of experience equivalent to GS-04, or a Bachelor's degree with related coursework.
- Full Performance Level (GS-06): One year of experience equivalent to GS-05, with comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization processes.
Preferred Experience
- Two years of experience in sterile processing.
- Certification in CRMST or CRCST.
- Knowledge in endoscope management.
Work Environment
- Schedules may vary with rotating weekends and holidays.
- Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work in various environments including decontamination and sterilization areas.
