Duties

  • The Strength and Conditioning Coach creates performance-based programs which include modalities such as strength, power, speed, agility, aerobic and anaerobic training, -recovery, for Marine Corps units, Marine athletes, and individual Marines and provide pre-designed strength and conditioning programs for family members that align with Marine Corps policies and MCTF strategy. The programs focus on improving physical performance, reducing musculoskeletal injuries (MSKI), and enhancing physical, social, spiritual, and mental wellness. 
  • The strength and conditioning coach develop unit and individual-specific, sport-specific, and structured periodized training programs for Marines and works as part of a larger unit or team such as WARR and MCTF providers. This collaborative environment involves communicating with commands, developing structured strength and conditioning programs, and working with athletic trainers, other strength and conditioning coaches, and other subject matter experts. Together, they provide services related to social, spiritual, physical, and mental performance, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collective achievement. 
  • The incumbent actively coaches and provides physical instruction, assessments, and demonstrations of various components of strength and conditioning to include nervous system regulation and activation, mobility (dynamic and transient), speed, agility, and quickness, conditioning (aerobic and anaerobic), strength and power, and reconditioning programming. The incumbent provides standardized strength and conditioning education, and training developed by Headquarters Semper Fit to include, but not limited to, the Strength and Conditioning for Small Unit Leaders online course and the Strength and Conditioning in-person course. Enclosure (1) The incumbent delivers sessions or classes at various locations such as where units reside, on sports fields, in performance centers, and in classrooms. 
  • Supports training activities and events at various locations such as Marines Corps schoolhouses, training sites, or in garrison or field. Utilizes athlete management software systems to program, periodize and track performance. Stores performance assessment information, subjective health questionnaires and other related records in accordance with Marine Corps Order 5210.11, Marine Corps Records Management Program and The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) The Incumbent develops physical performance programs and consultations for family members and authorized patrons who require sport or individualized programming. 
  • Leads performance training programs for homeschool groups or youth sports teams, and high school athletes as needed. The incumbent monitors open hours of training and provides safety instruction and minor corrections of participating authorized users to reduce risk for injury or aid to enhance individual performance. Additionally, the incumbent may provide support to other performance-based programs such installation community-based programs. Performs other duties as assigned (5%)

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

  • Academic level knowledge of exercise and sport physiology, strength and conditioning, human performance, kinesiology, physical education or a related field. of concepts, principles and practices of tactical strength and conditioning, and the unit readiness planning process to establish and maintain tactical fitness of individual Marines and Marine units. 
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and the ability to apply them in a higher performance setting such as the military, first-responder, high school, and collegiate setting. Demonstrate the ability to Design and deliver strength and conditioning programs and standardized education for Marines and families with an emphasis on prevention across all fitness domains. Ensures that all programming is in adherence to professional guidelines, policies, regulations, and law. 
  • Experience providing strength and conditioning for high school, college, professional, military units, or first responders and the ability to apply and follow principles of strength conditioning: overload, progression, specificity, variation and reversibility in programs designed for high school, collegiate, or military and first responder environments, Demonstrates experience writing, coaching, modifying, and supporting strength and conditioning workouts for large team/groups (50-100 athletes) to include pre- and post-performance testing. Demonstrates skill to coordinate strength and conditioning training based upon the needs of sports coaching staff or unit leadership to best align with in-season, out-of-season competition and/or military deployment cycles.
