Duties

This is a Direct Hire Public Notice for the DoD Direct-Hire Authority for Pathways Post-Secondary Students.

Post-Secondary Students will be placed on term appointment and MUST have more than one year remaining in their baccalaureate or graduate program in order to be appointed under this direct hire authority. Under this recruitment, applications will be accepted for each location and/or installation identified in this Public Notice and selections are made for vacancies as they occur. There may or may not be actual/projected vacancies at the time you submit your application.

This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1116 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (Public Law 118-31), "Extension of Direct Hire Authority for the Department of Defense for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates"

Your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Perform a variety of clerical, administrative and technical duties/responsibilities in support of management with the intent of accomplishing the administrative requirements of the directorate to which assigned; therefore contributing to the efficient and effective accomplishment of the objectives of the overall organization
  • Research office files or other sources for pertinent information needed to prepare correspondence, program briefings and other related actions.
  • Assist in conducting reviews and studies involving various aspects of the organization.
  • Develop and coordinate a variety of basic/routine reports, staff actions, correspondence, program briefings and other related actions
  • Maintain required database of information and develop and submit required reports, charts and graphs which reflect any/all personnel actions information

Qualifications

Internship Eligibility Requirements: Current Post-Secondary student meaning an individual who is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at a full-time program at an institution of higher education, is making satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and has completed at least one year of the undergraduate program.

Post-Secondary Students MUST have more than one year remaining in their baccalaureate or graduate program.

Students enrolled (must provide academic transcripts) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges) advanced degree programs. Note: You must provide sufficient transcripts and a proof of enrollment that reflects your current enrollment and a verification of Fall, 2026 enrollment. Applicants can be selected at GS-7 grade level. The target grade of this position is 11.

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

Have one year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in: 1) Researching office files or other sources for pertinent information needed to prepare correspondence, program briefings and other related actions and 2) Developing and coordinating a variety of basic/routine reports, staff actions, correspondence, program briefings and other related actions.

OR

Successful completion one year of full-time graduate level education at an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

OR

Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and claim eligibility for superior academic achievement based on one of the following:

Class standing in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.

OR

Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission..
