Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to the Pathways Program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development.

Duties

  • Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of computer engineering.
  • Working under the guidance of and in close association with senior personnel performs a variety of work assignments consisting of established, specific, and related tasks.
  • Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects.
  • Studies Air Force requirements for the projects and researches and studies the current body of precedents and technical knowledges.
  • Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives.
  • Assists senior personnel in determining the validity, feasibility, achievability, and efficiency of special studies, projects, and initiatives, and participates in planning the studies, projects, and initiatives

  • Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualiflying accredited institution
  • Must sign a Participant Agreement
  • U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws
  • Males 18 years or older must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
  • You must be a student, currently enrolled, at least half-time at a qualifying, accredited education institution or accepted for enrollment/enrolled in an approved program.
  • Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
  • Meet the qualification standards of the position

GS-04: Completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
GS-05: Completion of four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area ofcomputer engineering.
  2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments.
  3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format.
  4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions.
  5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field.
  6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

At the time the active duty member applies for a civil position, he or she must submit a "certification" memo in lieu of a DD-Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Active duty members applying for a civil service position without submitting a valid certification memo or DD-Form 214 with their application will render the member ineligible for the position.
