Conditions of employment
To be eligible, you must meet one of the following:
- Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half- to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution) and in good standing (minimum overall Grade Point Average of 2.0). Enrollment must be with an accredited educational institution.
- Meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their appointments.
- Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the agency's Participant Agreement with the Intern; and
- Meet the qualification standards (e.g., series and grade) for their internship positions.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
- You must submit a resume and supporting documentation (see Required Documents).
- You must be at least 16 years old at the time of appointment.
- Upon appointment, selected candidate(s) will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
- You must submit eligibility documents for veterans consideration (see Required Documents).

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EDUCATION: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a directly related field of study that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. You must provide transcripts with your application.
Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements.
Education
Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if applicable. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs. For additional info, refer to the U.S. Network for Education Information.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Academic transcripts certified by notary publics are NOT official. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to reporting to work as a condition of employment. Failure to submit official transcripts may be grounds for dismissal or rescission of the job offer.
Students must provide a copy of up-to-date transcripts (unofficial) at the end of each academic year, unless requested more frequently by the supervisor or Human Resources Office, for verification of enrollment and academic standing as proof of continuing eligibility for participation in the Intern Program.
Additional information
This is a temporary student internship opportunity under the Pathways Program. The major objective of the Pathways Program is to employ students, giving them a chance to work in a Federal agency and resume or continue their education without interruption caused by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while school is in session and full-time (depending upon the needs of the agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed.
Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year but may be extended each year without further competition, if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Interns may NOT be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment.
