Summary

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS), Central Office, located on the Jefferson Barracks VAMC campus in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a Supervisory Dietitian in our Nutrition and Whole Health Division. This position serves as a supervisor and a subject matter expert to top-level management officials of the VCS Food Operations Program nationwide.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

- Program Oversight & Compliance: Leads the enterprise-wide Veterans Canteen Service inpatient meal programs, ensuring alignment with contracts, service level agreements, SOPs, and VHA Directives. Provides recommendations for program improvements and modifications.
- Supervision & Collaboration: Provides direct and indirect supervision of Central Office and on-site Dietitians. Partners with hospital clinical staff to ensure consistent implementation of nutrition services across the organization.
- Strategic Planning & Policy Development: Contributes to the development of nutritional program strategy, goals, and policies. Ensuring alignment with agency, department, and medical center standards.
- Operational & Technical Support: Advises regional and local leaders on staffing, food budgets, sales goals, and organizational planning. Offers technical guidance on food systems, equipment procurement, and supply control.
- Program Evaluation & Quality Assurance: Conducts evaluations through site visits, operational reviews, and data analysis. Identifies areas for improvement and recommends corrective actions.
- Health & Wellness Leadership: Oversees the VCS BeWell Health and Wellness Program and collaborates with national initiatives to promote wellness for Veterans, employees, and customers.

Qualifications

- Educational & Professional Credentials: Bachelor's or advanced degree in dietetics, nutrition, food service management, or a related science from an ACEND-accredited program. Completion of an approved internship or clinical component, and active registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
- Leadership & Strategic Planning: Demonstrated ability to plan, assess, and evaluate complex nutrition programs. Experience developing and aligning strategic goals to improve outcomes for Veterans and VCS operations.
- Interpersonal & Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to build effective working relationships across professional and administrative levels, both within and outside of government settings.
- Age-Appropriate Care & Training Oversight: Knowledge of providing services tailored to the cognitive, emotional, and developmental needs of diverse age groups. Ensuring staff are trained accordingly.
- Expertise in Nutrition Administration: Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition science and operational practices. Capable of serving as a subject matter expert to guide policy, set priorities, and lead patient dining initiatives
