At least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-10) in the Federal Service. Technician experience includes supervising, leading or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the (1) methods and techniques of engineering or architecture and (2) construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials. Qualifying specialized experience may include technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Examples of qualifying specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: In depth and working knowledge of relevant codes and regulations, shop and project operations and procedures, construction materials and practices and labor performances for the determination of manpower, materials, equipment, tools and the overall cost of accomplishing work; skill and experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and designing of various types of HVAC systems and be fully familiar with various equipment systems and controls including digital and pneumonic controls, building energy control systems, cooling towers, dehumidification and PM-conditioning systems, complex electronic controls and cooling function/application; reviewed and revised Architectural/Engineering (A/E) designs and specification; performed short and long term planning for maintenance project support, determined resource requirements and number of personnel and skill required to perform short-term and long-term work; must be able to read blueprints schematics and specifications to be able to apply mathematical principles and formulas to engineering design and troubleshooting problems NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education that is directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician position, such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology. Physical Requirements: Work may at times require prolonged strenuous activity such as lifting (up to 50 pounds), pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, stooping, twisting and bending. Work may occur in various locations such as inside buildings and exterior areas where temperatures and humidity levels are determined by weather conditions. Some work may be in confined spaces where conditions may be hot, cramped and humid.
