In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Experience leading and/or supervising subordinates; (2) Experience providing training on firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, technical rescue, etc.; (3) Experience inspecting buildings, inspecting and testing extinguishing equipment and systems, care and maintenance of equipment and fire station and its surrounding grounds. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain at the time of application the following DoD, ProBoard, or IFSAC Firefighter Certification levels: DOD Firefighter I and II, HazMat Technician, DOD Fire Officer II, DOD Fire Instructor I, DOD Fire Inspector I, DOD HazMat IC, DOD Airport Firefighter.
This position requires you to possess and maintain Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification issued by the State of Virginia or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

- Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance
- Managing Human Resources
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
