Summary

As a national program manager responsible for leading the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom national program, you will serve as a recognized authority on all aspects of Underground Railroad resource preservation and partnership development.

Duties

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the Network to Freedom, including developing and tracking budgets and creating annual work plans
  • Provide technical direction on complex initiatives to identify, document, preserve, interpret and promote Underground Railroad trails and properties
  • Conduct professional reviews and assessment of research and documentation prepared by others related to Underground Railroad properties
  • Coordinate planning, research, outreach, and educational efforts with a variety of NPS and non-NPS partners
  • Build new partnerships with non-profits, state and local governments, and other Federal agencies through formal cooperative agreements
  • Supervise four to eight subordinate staff

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this position you must meet the basic requirement and the specialized experience requirement.

Basic Requirement:
  • Possess a Bachelor's or higher degree in history; or a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history; or
  • Possess a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized Experience: Possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service, leading American history research projects in order to develop educational or interpretive programming for the general public; reviewing work completed by others to ensure it meets technical/professional standards; interpreting historic preservation laws and regulations for others; and developing cooperative relationships with other stakeholder groups to share best practices, resolve common problems, or complete joint projects

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
