Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, Information Resources Office in Washington D.C. or Lakewood, CO. The positions will supervise the Information Resources Office's Cybersecurity Branch.

Duties

At the full performance level (GS-15) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise a highly technical Information Technology security team critical to the protection of Bureau and Departmental information assets
  • Interpret Government-wide information security guidelines and establishes standards, policies, guidelines, and control techniques to ensure appropriate application, implementation, and compatibility of Information Technology security on Bureau systems.
  • Coordinates implementation of the Departmental IT Risk Management Framework, Assessment and Authorization, and associated enterprise-wide continuous monitoring processes, procedures and programs to reduce the risk of vulnerabilities and weaknesses that could adversely impact the confidentiality, integrity or availability of sensitive agency information and information systems.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with all staff organizations regarding potential threats.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying.

Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-15, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Providing technical expertise in the area of cybersecurity; Developing, defining, managing, and documenting cybersecurity projects; Using project management tools and skills to develop and manage in-depth cybersecurity projects plans; Applying Federal information systems security protocols to integrate information systems security with other security disciplines; Developing, implementing, and interpreting metrics for the evaluation of cybersecurity program effectiveness and efficiency; Demonstrating experience managing crisis events and balancing conflicting needs of various stakeholders; Demonstrating experience providing solutions and problem resolution to customers

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

One year at the GS-14 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-15 level.
