Duties
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervises multiple full-time staff and through them manage the work of the Property and Supply Branch including support functions for the park - the Mailroom/Copy Center, Supply, and Property.
- Promotes internal controls and accountability from acquisition/acceptance through distribution, use, and/or proper disposal methods for mail, official records, supplies, materials, equipment, and accountable property used throughout the park by over 700 NPS staff.
- Serves as the Park Property Manager, coordinating park-wide internal control functions among the park, bureau, department, and GSA staff for central Supply items and over 12,000 formal and informal personal property assets, through the Property Specialist and other staff.
- Directs the operations of the park Supply Center, stocking and selling over 2,000 items ranging from household items and janitorial supplies to industrial gasses and construction materials.
- Directs the work of the Mail and File Assistant and Administrative Support Assistant to provide mail, print, and copy services to park divisions and staff to ensure printing, copying, and binding of materials for use in the park comply with copyright laws and U.S. Government Publications Office (GPO) regulations.
- Develops long-term equipment acquisition, service, and replacement plans for high-capacity printers, copiers, folding and binding machines, and mail meters.
- Oversees the work of the Management Analyst (Purchasing Facilitator) in providing customer service to program managers in drafting scopes of work and thorough descriptions of good and materials, research sources of supply, and compiles independent government cost estimates for requisitions.
- Consults with the Regional Office staff in the Northern Rockies Major Acquisition Buying Office (MABO) to efficiently direct the work of the Management Analyst and ensure both the Management Analyst and MABO Contracting Officers jointly provide timely acquisition services to park staff.
Park Information
Yellowstone National Park, a natural wonderland and the first national park in the world, boasts a dedicated team of professionals committed to managing and safeguarding the park's natural and cultural resources, ensuring a balance between conservation and visitor experiences. Yellowstone is one of the largest national park operations in the world spanning 2.2 million acres and receiving over 4 million visitors each year. The park has a team of nearly 1,300 employees and volunteers. Working side-by-side with wildlife is not uncommon in Yellowstone, and the size and diversity of the park is sure to make for an interesting and fast-paced work environment.
Spread over 2.2 million acres in the Rocky Mountain region of the country, Yellowstone's elevation varies throughout, ranging from 3,000ft to over 7,000ft above sea level, leading to variable climates and weather patterns across the park. Expect big temperature swings, rain, and even snow during every month of the year. Summer daytime temperatures vary from the 70's to the 90's at lower elevations, and winter temperatures range from the 20's to below zero at night.
This position is located in the North District of the park. Park headquarters are located in Mammoth's Historic district, with a large hub of facilities, concessions, and administrative offices, all hosted in buildings from the Army era of Yellowstone. The nearest groceries are available 20 minutes north in Gardiner, MT, and larger big-box stores are located 1.5 hours away in Bozeman, MT. There is an employee rec center and pub. There is a small clinic open year-round in Mammoth. Verizon has the best service available in Mammoth, and in addition to Verizon, both T-Mobile and AT&T have service in Gardiner.

This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/28/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level:
Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience could include, but is not limited to the following: leading/supervising staff in establishing, utilizing, managing and/or modifying electronic systems in the performance of analytical work managing, regulating, and/or exercising control over supplies, equipment, and material in at least one of the following areas: logistics; procurement and inventory management of expendable goods, equipment, and materials; and/or accountable property management of durable goods and/or capital asset inventories. You must include hours worked per week on resume.

Education: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position, which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to do the work of this position. You must include transcripts.

Combination of education and experience as listed above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of months of qualifying, full-time work experience and divide by 12. Multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Then take the number of graduate credits completed, in excess of 36 graduate semester hours, and divide by 18. Multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours worked per week on resume and include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Although much of the work is sedentary, many daily tasks require regular and recurring physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting to move warehouse inventory and incoming supplies and property. Ladders are used in the warehouse operations. Various carts are pushed on unplowed snow-covered walkways and roadways.
Incumbent operates a light duty truck to travel to sites throughout the park for reviews and inspections of personal property assets. Climbing in and out of large, elevated pieces of heavy equipment are required to review, inspect, and record accountable property details. Eight-foot ladders are used to gain access to large motorboats. Walking on uneven ground is routing during field inspections of property. Bending, stooping, and twisting are required to locate data hidden from view on property assets, such as vehicle identification or serial numbers.
Work occurs in offices, warehouses, outdoor storage buildings, portable storage containers, remote service road areas, open fields, enclosed semi-trailers, gravel pits, boneyards, maintenance service buildings and shops, and at various locations throughout the park, both indoors and outdoors. Day trips by vehicle or snowmobile are required in the park, and temporary duty travel may be required occasionally for meetings or training, both inside and outside the park.
Incumbent is required to use personal protective items when appropriate such as winter boots and winter protective clothing, work gloves, safety vests, and/or a respirator. Incumbent enters dark storage units that seasonally may be very hot or cold and uses a flashlight to obtain property asset data. Some environments encountered throughout the park may be rodent infested. Bear spray is carried when inspecting property in remote locations. Large wild animals, including elk, bears, and bison may be encountered anywhere in the park.
Activities include the use of office equipment as well as forklifts, pallet jacks, and automobiles/light trucks. Incumbent operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks in the warehouse, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Conditions very from sub-zero temperatures in winter to highs in the 90s in summer. The forklift is operated on uneven terrain, and maneuvered in tight spaces inside buildings, requiring focused attention to surroundings, materials being moved, and other workers and Supply Center customers. Snow and ice conditions require four-wheel driver travel and applying snow chains to the forklift.
Work in both the office and the warehouse exposes the incumbent to moderate discomforts including periods with high levels of noise, changing temperatures (both high and low), and frequent interruptions and distractions
