Duties
Serves as the Section Chief of the Behavioral Health Section located within the Outpatient Ambulatory Care Section.
Manages and leads the programs related to Outpatient Ambulatory Care, which include, but are not limited to medical support staff for Behavioral Health Section.
Performs a full range of first line supervisory duties for (2) GS-0679-08 Supervisory Medical Support Assistants positions and performs a full range of second line supervisory duties for (2) GS-0679-07 Lead Medical Support Assistants, (19) GS-0679-06 Advanced Medical Support Assistants and (1) GS-0679-05 Medical Support Assistant positions. These positions are spread-out through multiple locations (which includes Wilmington HCC, Jacksonville CBOC and Brunswick CBOCs) these services provided by the Fayetteville Coastal Healthcare System.
Performs/carries out the following supervisory duties:
plans the work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for the completion of work; has regular meetings with subordinates in different sites of care to plan for daily, weekly, and long term needs and to adjust schedules accordingly; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, the selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees; sets priorities and assignments and provides 'tasks and duties' via suspense's, and other work assignments to match the demands to the employee; evaluates the work performance of subordinate sand is responsible for their performance plans/standards, evaluations, and ratings; gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters; serves as a mentor, coach, instructor, and subject matter expert to direct and indirect reports; interviews candidates for positions in the unit; recommends appointments, promotions, or reassignments to such positions; hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher level supervisor or manager; effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases; proposes and works with HR (for guidance on proper methods and documentation) to issue disciplinary actions; identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training; works with subordinates on personal developmental needs and service level education required for proper job success; finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed; employs lean management thinking, system redesign principles, and other change leadership concepts in order to promote efficiencies and strive for highest standards; exercises significant responsibilities in dealing with officials of other units or organizations, or in advising management officials of higher rank; ensures the reasonable equity (among units, groups, teams, projects, etc.) of performance standards and rating techniques developed by subordinates or ensuring comparable equity in the assessment by subordinates; makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors, team leaders, or similar personnel; evaluates subordinate supervisors or leaders and serves as the reviewing official on evaluations of supervisory and nonsupervisory employees rated by subordinate supervisors; recommends selections for subordinate supervisory and nonsupervisory positions; recommends selections for work leader, group leader, or project director positions responsible for coordinating the work of others, and similar positions; hears and resolves group grievances or serious employee complaints; reviews and approves serious disciplinary actions (e.g., suspensions) involving supervisory and nonsupervisory subordinates; makes decisions on non-routine, costly, or controversial training needs and training requests related to employees of the Service; determines whether contractor performed work meets the standards of adequacy necessary for authorization of payment; approves expenses comparable to within-grade increases, extensive overtime, and employee travel; Assists the healthcare groups in the development of local policy guidance and procedures for workload management.
Perform other directly related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-4:30pm. This position will also be required to be available for rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays due to the fact that some of this position's subordinates are required to work these schedules.
