Summary

About the Position: This position is located in the Patient Administration Records Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.

Duties

  • Plan and revise work schedules and assignments to assure an even flow and distribution of work, the expeditious handling of priorities, that schedules and deadlines are met and to meet changes in workload.
  • Assign responsibilities to subordinates, reviews the work, and provides guidance and assistance on administrative matters.
  • Review medical records to ensure all diagnoses and procedures are properly documented according to program and regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Conduct quality improvement reviews of the Medicare Severity Diagnostic Related Groups Program by monitoring Medicare Severity Diagnostic Related Groups trends and identifying which groups are using excessive or inappropriate resources.
  • Provide advice to management and staff members on procedures and problems and provides solutions.
  • Coordinate and provide in-house training to both supervisory and nonsupervisory medical records staff, clerks, physicians, other health care providers on issues.

  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing two or more of the following: managing the medical records programs for inpatient or outpatient records; performing technically complex duties involved with auditing or analyzing or coding or reviewing medical data, provide guidance on phases of coding and identify deficiencies in coding. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Administration or Health Care Management. OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)
