Summary

This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Ambulatory Nursing, in the Primary Care Medical Clinic within the Phoenix Indian Medical Center located in Phoenix, AZ. Incumbent serves as the Supervisor for the Primary Care Medicine Clinic (PCMC) nursing and clinical support staff. Incumbent also serves as an RN by directing and supporting the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Care Coordinator, and Case Manager.

Duties

  • The incumbent is directly responsible for the clinical services provided by nursing and clinical support staff in the Primary Care Medicine Clinic.
  • Evaluates professional nurses using an active, supportive peer review system that acknowledges and enhances professional nursing practice.
  • This position supervises, directs, and oversees all aspects of the Primary Care nursing and clinical support personnel. the incumbent provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing, technical, and support services for the Primary Care team.
  • Collects subjective and objective health status data from multiple sources, which includes the patient, family members, team members, and documented records. Analyzes health status data in terms of the unique individual and/or disease related situation.
  • Recognizes urgent/emergent patient and clinic situations and initiates emergency medical procedures and complies with external disaster, internal disaster, bomb threat and fire plan and drills.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this 0610 occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements,

Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

License: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0610-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent with particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. The following type of work and/or tasks include: Knowledge of team leader skills and the ability to apply them as needed to identify and solve problems. Knowledge of nursing policy and procedures related to Infection Control, Performance Improvement, and Risk Management. Ability to supervise staff by planning performance improvement and assigning work. Previous leadership experience is preferred.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
