Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified:
- Will maintain a current, valid State Driver's License to operate Government owned vehicles such as utility-terrain (UTVs), etc.
At the GS-12 Level: One (1) year of professional recreation and/or wilderness experience equivalent to GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include overseeing activities associated with outdoor recreation, wilderness activity, interpretation, and/or environmental education; developing standards and guidelines for recreation, wilderness, and/or monitoring program operations and budget while preserving, restoring, and enhancing the quality of the outdoor environment; coordinating with managers, planners, resource specialists, the public, or other Federal or State government officials to identify recreation and/or wilderness program needs; conducting a full range of supervisory duties such as planning, organizing, directing, or evaluating the work of subordinate staff members.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some physical exertion such as walking; hiking; long periods of standing; recurring bending; crouching, stooping and carrying of items such as books and backpacks during field work. The incumbent must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. The incumbent often may be required to travel over rugged, precipitous, slippery, terrain via 4-wheel-drive vehicle on dirt or gravel roads, and by other recreational modes (i.e., bike riding, horseback riding, and ATV), while in the field.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. Occasional travel may be required. The position may be required to visit field sites where risks may include exposure to inclement weather and potential injury from falls, strains, bites, stings, etc. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or designated by the Safety Officer. Incumbent is required to wear official BLM uniform when working with the public.
