To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:
- Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects;
- Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations;
- Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
- Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens;
- Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications;
- Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or
- Maintaining all medication records required by law and accreditation standards.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
In order to qualify for this position, your application must demonstrate that you meet
all three of the following Basic Requirements:
1 - Degree:Your resume and/or transcripts must reflect that you possess a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the
Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Your resume or other supporting documentation must reflect that you are a current employee assigned to a position in the GS-0660 occupational series as of September 2017.
2 - License:You must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
3 - Medical Requirement:You must also be able to distinguish basic colors.
Experience Requirements for the GS-13:In addition to the licensure and educational requirements described above, your resume or supporting documents must demonstrate at least one (1) year of qualifying professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. This experience is related to the work of the position in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Providing inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services; carrying out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, compounding and dispensing as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; taking steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensuring correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; preparing and maintaining the department budget; creating schedules and assigning work for subordinates, evaluating work performance, ensuring staff maintains and is current with all Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and credentialing; teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists.
Supervisory Abilities:This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
