This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The incumbent's duties require maintaining law and order, within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

Duties

  • Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust priorities and prepares schedules.
  • Assign work to subordinates and give advice or instructions to the employees.
  • Set employee standards for performance and prepare performance evaluations.
  • Conduct job interviews and make recommendations for promotions, reassignments and new hires.
  • Respond to and investigate emergency calls and complaints.
  • Exercise search and apprehension authority, interview witnesses, collect and preserve evidence and conduct investigations on criminal cases.
  • Conduct traffic law enforcement patrols and issue citations

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Medical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and/or maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test.
  • This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Enforcing law enforcement regulations concerning protecting life and property for an organization; 2) Interviewing witnesses to crimes, accidents, or security breaches to determine facts and/or warrant apprehension/ detention; AND 3) Providing guidance on law enforcement and security policies and procedures for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
