This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Emergency Services, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

Duties

  • Serve as Supervisory Police Officer, exercising technical and administrative supervision over subordinate law enforcement personnel engaged in enforcing military, Federal, state, and local criminal, traffic, and motor vehicle laws and regulations.
  • Plan work schedules and sequence of patrol operations on a weekly, monthly, or project-to-project basis to assure an even flow and distribution of work, the expeditious handling of priority cases, and the meeting of schedules and deadlines.
  • Make changes in work schedules to meet changes in workload considering factors such as peak loads, manpower availability, and processing time requirements.
  • Observe or respond to reports of crime ranging from violations of simple rules to felonies, and capital crimes. Identifies incidents personally or through reports and eyewitness accounts.
  • Serve as a shift supervisor and a direct representative of the Director of Emergency Services at the scene of serious incidents (e.g., those involving injury or death), until such time as properly relieved by higher authority.
  • Inform immediate supervisor of anticipated vacancies and/or increase in workload to obtain replacements, temporary help, or additional staff.
  • Oversee attendance and leave, approving ordinary sick and annual leave and vacation schedules.
  • Perform special assignments requiring extensive specialized training or experience and use of special equipment.

  • This position requires a medical evaluation/examination for new hires and current employees.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain an Individual Reliability Program certification in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent have or obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work in all types of weather.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work rotating shifts that include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or be able to obtain and maintain Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Advance First Aid.
  • This position will require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles.
  • This position requires new hires and current employees to successfully pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT).
  • This position requires the incumbent to qualify semiannually with their assigned weapons.
  • This position is subject to random drug testing in accordance with Army Regulation 600-85.
  • This position requires incumbent to attend and successfully graduate from the Department of the Army Police Academy.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a prescribed uniform.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work mandatory overtime.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience maintaining order and protecting life and property, using federal, state, or local law enforcement regulations to conduct police desk operations such as maintaining police blotters and journals, review of police reports, and management of police officer personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-08.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
