In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in 1) Overseeing, coordinating and directing media relations, command information, social media and community relations special projects; 2) Writing plans and guidance to establish guidelines and policies for use within the organization or by subordinate public affairs offices; 3) Presenting oral and or written information to internal and external audiences to provide shared understanding of public affairs guidance and concepts of operation; 4) Responding to requests for guidance in public affairs matters from members of the command and from the field, as well as respond to requests for information from members of Congress, news media representatives, and the public; 5) Applying principles, methods, and techniques of all forms of mass and interpersonal communications media when developing, executing, and evaluating public affairs plans, policies, and practices.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
