Summary

About the position: This position is located at the Natatorium at Yokota AB Japan.

This is a flexible 0-40 hours per week.

Duties

  • Serve as a working supervisor over assigned recreation aid and assistants in the performance of lifeguard and related swimming facility duties.
  • Performs full range of personnel supervisory duties.
  • Directs, instructs, and reviews staff work assignments providing specific tasks. procedures. and techniques and provides on the job training.
  • Distributes and balances workload, adjusting for priorities.
  • Maintains time and attendance records.
  • Works on the computer to support daily running of the Natatorium and Aquatics operation. Ensures safe environment and resource protection standards are in compliance with established procedures.
  • Ensures strict adherence and precise attention to detail (e.g., water chemistry tests. facility rules of behavior, etc.) and work assignments are accomplished timely.
  • Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work to ensure instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
  • Observes areas to ensure safety is adhered to.
  • Ensures the swimming area is open at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
  • Performs lifeguard duties and provides guidance.
  • Using a variety of techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, promptly renders first aid to the injured or rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning.
  • When required, calls for professional medical assistance.
  • Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
  • Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures. policies, and directives, and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems.
  • Reports issues of performance, progress, training needs, or disciplinary problems to supervisor. Collects admission fees, make change. and completes appropriate forms.
  • Perform other related and incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the Natatorium and Aquatics operation to include: front desk/ reception duties, cleaning of bath houses. pools. pool decks, sunbathing areas, etc.
  • Assist with the development of a training plan and participates in the training of staff on safety. customer service, correct lifeguarding techniques, resource protection, and hazardous materials.
  • Reconciles cash drawer and makes deposits, and ensures all equipment is ready for use.

  • The incumbent must be a U. S. Citizen or legal U. S. residents residing within the commuting area of Yokota AB.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Possess physical ability to swim.
  • Perform water rescues and administer lifeguard techniques to swimmers of all ages (adults. children. infants).
  • Must possess an approved current nationally recognized certification in lifeguard, basic first aid, and CPR which covers lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills. and procedures for all ages.
  • Experience and knowledge of swimming activities, aquatic rules and procedures.
  • Microsoft Office Programs and staff training and development.
  • Knowledge and skill in maintenance of various pools and use of safety equipment is required.
  • Complete and maintain Tl, state, and installation criminal records checks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds.
  • Ability to effectively communicate. oral and written in English.
  • Must be available to work an uncommon tour of duty (evenings. weekends and holidays). and compliance with uniform policy.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in various temperatures and weather conditions.

Education
