Summary

This position is to assist the Arts and Crafts Activity Director in the overall operation of the Skills Development Center Program. This position is located in the Arts & Crafts Center of the 35th Force Support Squadron Misawa AB.

This is a Regular Part Time position; guaranteed 20 hours per week but may be up to 34 hours per week depending on the needs of the facility.

Military Spouse Preference is lost if selected for this position.

Duties

  • Establishes a schedule of events for offered programs and oversees execution.
  • Supervises NAF and host nation employees, contract instructors, and volunteers.
  • Responsible for succession planning of employees within the Skills Development Program.
  • Rates performance, issues disciplinary actions, approves leave requests, and interviews/selects staff.
  • Effectively resolves employee and customer issues and concerns.
  • Develops marketing and publicity material such as flyers, posters, radio/TV announcements, and social media to promote activities/programs.
  • Oversees the purchase of current and appropriate stock levels and ensures set merchandising standards are followed.
  • Ensures equipment and inventory supplies are used in a manner that minimizes fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Recommends additions, removal, and changes to supplies and equipment.
  • Conducts research to locate new suppliers and new products.
  • Organizes and prepares craft areas for scheduled programs.
  • Ensure facilities are clean and orderly.
  • Enforces fire and safety regulations.
  • Reports safety hazards to supervisor and takes corrective action.
  • Ensures proper safety gear is available and used by staff and customers.
  • Ensures hazardous materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable guidelines and that staff/customers are trained in the proper procedures.
  • Organizes arts/crafts content in conjunction with and in support of Air Force wide contests.
  • Assembles special programs in concurrence with base wide events.
  • Develops initial concept, promotes program, and coordinates all aspects of the event.
  • May be required to operate government vehicles to transport supplies to various facility events.
  • Additional responsibilities are equipment maintenance, building upkeep, property custodian for NAF and APF assets, and other related duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Must have experience which has demonstrated the ability to manage business activities.
  • Experience may have been gained in an operating, administrative, or managerial position which included responsibility for various phases of operations, such as equipment and supply accountability, financial management, and/or planning organizational or club activities.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Must have experience which has provided a general familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs.
  • In addition, responsible experience in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty for which the applicant is highly desired.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
