About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency (DHA), located at Fort Rucker, AL. The primary location within Lyster Army Health Clinic will be the in the Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security Division supervising the clinic's guard force.
This position is an Obligated - Term Position, Not to Exceed 3 years with the possibility of annual extensions.
It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years.

Duties
- Supervise employees, distribute work, and set priorities.
- Direct response to immediate high threat incidents.
- Develop performance standards for subordinates.
- Advise, counsel or instruct employees on both work and administrative matters.
- Identify developmental and training needs of employees.
- Review and approve all reports for initial investigations on all incidents and crime.
- Coordinate follow-up action with appropriate federal and state law enforcement agencies.
- Maintain records and compiles statistical reports and crime trends.
- Execute facility lockdown plan in support of Force Protection Operations.
- Secure and account for weapons and ammunition.

- This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid US state and local government driver's license.
- This position may require a character investigation to secure incumbent’s honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government.
- This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Overtime, scheduled/unscheduled, may be required for periods of emergency.
- Position requires employee to wear chemical protection masks, gloves and other protective equipment, and be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of protective equipment.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- Required to be screened for and may be required to obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, Tuberculosis, influenza, etc.),
unless exempted by a licensed physician.
- Required to successfully complete Security Guard training.
- Required to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and thereafter qualify semi-annually.
- Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as required.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Required to wear the prescribed uniform; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
Qualifications
This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of 8 years.This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Performing duties during emergencies, protecting and assuring life, health and safety; Conducting internal and external patrols of the hospital; Maintaining records and compile statistical reports; Securing weapons and ammunition for subordinates; and providing guidance to security guard personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone --no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
