Summary
This position is part of the Office of Environmental Management - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Supervisory Security Specialist, you will provide technical support and assistance to the EM staff and managers, both at Headquarters and in the Field, in all safeguards, security, emergency management, and emergency preparedness functions, representing EM to external organizations, and providing EM managers with technical recommendations.

- New supervisors are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
- New supervisors/managers are required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- You are required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon entering the position and annually (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I USOGE, 6/08).
- This position has been designated as "Q" and requires a security clearance at the Critical-Sensitive level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- This position is not included in a Bargaining Agreement.
- This position is included in the Department of Energy's Technical Qualification Program (TQP).
- The selectee will be required to meet core, position, and site-specific technical qualification standards within a reasonable period (typically from 12 to 18 months) from the date of placement in the position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
- Reviewing and applying safeguard and security policies and regulations.
- Analyzing, evaluating, and resolving security issues.
- Providing technical and administrative advice or making recommendations to leadership on safeguards and security programs.
Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-15 level.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
