About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

  • Serve as Physical Education Department Coordinator, Senior Instructor and Head Football Coach in the USMAPS Department of Physical Education and Athletics.
  • Develop the physical education curriculum and teach upper division college level classes in physical education to candidates seeking admission to the United States Military Academy.
  • Serve as Head Football Coach for the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.
  • Provide instruction for various courses in the USMAPS physical education curriculum.
  • Manage and oversee staff operations and provide supervision.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position may be subject to a two-year trial period.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes 1) Teaching physical education courses; and 2) Coaching football at the college prep level (or higher). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency selective placement factors/knowledge. skills and abilities (KSAs) in the following five areas:

1) Academic accomplishment or demonstrated practical experience in physical education;
2) Ability to teach Functional Fitness, Remedial Swimming, and/or Strength Development;
3) Demonstrated ability to coach intercollegiate football;
4) Ability to supervise a football coaching staff, plan and organization staff responsibilities, conduct meetings and film review; and
5) Demonstrated ability to support the personal growth and development of cadet candidates in and out of the classroom, as a role model for future West Point Cadets.
