Qualifications

GS-04 - You must possess six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience. General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surveying Technician. Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments.

Education: Have successfully completed two (2) years of study postsecondary education (above high school) which includes at least 12 semester hours of courses in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.
GS-05- Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying. Examples include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments, and/or serve as a crew member and occasionally crew lead for specific projects.

Education: Have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
Work Environment: Work requires physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds, necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
