We are seeking a System Engineer to join our Operations team
in the Office of Legislative Computer Systems. This position works in
maintenance and production environments to address problems and challenges
encountered during equipment and systems operations, handling, assembly,
disassembly, inspection, testing and repair. This entry level systems
engineering position provides a unique and challenging opportunity within an
exclusive mission critical environment. The job involves a variety of work
revolving around maintaining and supporting the Electronic Voting System used
in the U.S. House of Representatives:
- Responsible for the state of health and operability of EVS. Provide daily operational support for the Electronic Voting System by performing daily system checks, monitoring availability of all hardware, software, and key processes, and reviewing system logs and verifying completion of all scheduled jobs and backups.
- Support the implementation of process improvements to enhance system performance and minimize downtime.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues with guidance from senior engineers and SMEs, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Support day-to-day monitoring of system performance and use monitoring tools (e.g., Syslog-ng) to detect anomalies and take corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation for production issues, troubleshooting steps, and system configurations, contributing to the shared knowledge base.
- Work with a team and be willing to support operations on as needed basis.
