Summary

You will serve as a TECHINICAL DIRECTOR in the OFFICE OF THE COMMMANDING OFFICER of NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHY OPERATIONS COMMAND.

Duties

  • You will remain abreast of scientific advancements; Navy enterprise, Information Warfare enterprise, Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) enterprise.
  • You will review Concept of Operations and advise the Commanding Officer on achievable and sustainment technical implementations.
  • You will direct external activities to evaluate, deliver and implement emerging technologies.
  • You will establish new concepts and approaches to sensing, processing, and deliver physical battlespace awareness for the Navy Information Warfare Community.
  • You will serve as a technical expert for solutions that must interface with existing technology and with atmospheric, oceanographic, and tactical systems.
  • You will provide analysis to predict the performance of electromagnetic and electro-optical sensors and electromagnetic warfare devices in current and future atmospheric environments.
  • You will provide analysis to predict the performance of electromagnetic sensitive equipment in current and future atmospheric environments.
  • You will represent the Command in research and development forums.
  • You will develop and review Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience applying electromagnetic and electro optical propagation theory and/or USW acoustic propagation theory and its applications thereof.
  • Experience in creating/compiling foundational requirements for undersea warfare and/or Electromagnetic maneuver warfare.
  • Experience with Research and Development concepts, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
  • Experience applying knowledge and experience with Tactical Decision Aid (TDA) development for military applications.
  • Experience applying knowledge of Naval Meteorology and Oceanography.

For General Physical Science Series 1301:
I have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
Or
I have a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For Oceanography Series 1360:
I have successfully completed a degree with a major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. Please Note: Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
Or
I have a combination of education and experience that includes course work in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Please Note: Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

For series Computer Science Series 1550:
I have a bachelor's degree in computer science.
Or
I have a bachelor's or higher degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

For Meteorology series 1340:
I have a bachelor's or higher degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included: (1) At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of: (a) Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics;* (b) Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale); (c) Three semester hours of physical meteorology; and (d) Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation. (2) Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that included a laboratory session.* (3) Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.* (4) At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.
* There is a prerequisite or core requisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major.
OR
I have a combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
