POSITION DUTIES: This flight crew position is located in the Air Operations Group of an ANG flying wing assigned heavy multi-engine transport aircraft with a basic crew configuration of one pilot, one copilot and one loadmaster. These aircraft are equipped with advanced flight management systems that enable the pilots to fly the aircraft without the assistance of navigators or flight engineers. This position is primarily responsible for providing ground and flight training instruction for developing, upgrading, and evaluating the skills of loadmaster aircrew members; assisting the pilot in the operation of the aircraft; performing loadmaster duties on assigned missions; and accomplishing related staff work. This sole enlisted crewmember is assigned significant additional preflight, in-flight and post flight duties. Typical missions assigned the unit include the airlift of equipment and personnel, combat airdrop, medical evacuation, polar operations, search and rescue, fire fighting, special operations, combat aircrew training, formal school, and counter drug intelligence and reconnaissance.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Conducts loadmaster training to ensure worldwide capability. Training includes initial and mission qualification as well as continuation, upgrade and specialized training. Provides actual formal classroom instruction and on-the-job experience through flying simulated or real-world missions.
2. Performs preflight inspection of the interior and exterior of the aircraft, to include engines, fuselage, and control surfaces for mechanical and structural soundness. Functionally checks all aircraft systems, flight instruments, and onboard computers e.g., Communications Navigation Identification Unit, Heads Down Display (HDD), the Self Contained Navigation System (SCNS), Inertial Navigation System (INS), Traffic Alert and Collision Avoiding System (TCAS), Ground Collision Avoidance System (GCAS) and Multi-functional Control Display. Inputs data into onboard computer systems. Updates Air Traffic Information System (ATIS) information and Take Off and Landing Data (TOLD) as required. Advises maintenance personnel of any items requiring corrective action or affecting safety of flight.
3. Develops and certifies cargo load plans considering quantity, weight, configuration, floor capacity, compartment restrictions and proper location within the aircraft to achieve the optimum center of gravity. Provides instruction on gaseous venting requirements and monitors pressure and vent valves during flight to prevent a hazardous condition from developing. Determines location and placement of hazardous materials considering passenger safety and en-route offload/onload requirements. Supervises and directs floor/palletized loading, cargo restrictions, Air Terminal Operations Center (ATOC) procedures and coordination, passenger handling considerations, and customs, immigrations and agricultural clearances. In addition to normal preflight duties, provides instruction on recovery and reconstitution procedures for SIOP and diverted missions that may not carry maintenance specialists. These duties include servicing, fuel, oil, hydraulics, oxygen, and operation of auxiliary power units (APU).
4. Performs staff work based on specialized knowledge of the unit's mission, assigned aircraft and the related programs to ensure safe and successful accomplishment of required training, assigned mission support and airlift support requirements. Takes necessary action to ensure that all requisites involved in mission planning are identified, coordinated and accomplished.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience equivalent to a GS-09.

Permanent Change of Station: PCS funds are not available for this position.
